Jack Satin (Hamilton von Watts) był dobrze zapowiadającym się artystą scenowym, ale pech chciał, że został bez pracy i pieniędzy. Mężczyzna opuszcza Las Vegas i wyrusza do Atlantic City. Podczas podróży jego cadillac psuje się nieopodal sennej mieściny Lost Springs. Jack zostaje zmuszony zostać tu na dłużej. Poznaje mechanika Doca Bishopa (Robert Guillaume), dawną legendę jazzu. Z czasem zakochuje się w barmance Lauren Wells (Melissa Joan Hart).  W końcu dochodzi do wniosku, że pogoń za karierą i pieniędzmi nie jest w życiu najważniejsza.
